FUNimation licenses BakaTest and Vampire Bund

March 4, 2010

http://blog.funimation.com/2010/03/baka-and-test-dance-in-the-vampire-bund/

Pretty unexpected, since neither has finished airing.

I don’t have a whole lot to comment on here. BakaTest is definitely a purchase for me, maybe even a pre-order, depending on when I buy my usual round of stuff at Right Stuf. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and go watch it. It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. I do hope that “Baka and Test -Summon the Beasts-” isn’t actually the final title, though. It’s an incorrect/incomplete translation and it doesn’t sound as good as “Idiots and Tests and Summoned Beings/Beasts/Monsters/Whatever.” Vampire Bund, on the other hand, hasn’t really been worth a purchase so far. Unless the remaining episodes absolutely blow me away, I doubt I’ll be buying it, at least not immediately. I may instead opt to pick it up when the price drops or if it goes on sale.

Nice acquisitions on FUNi’s part, but again, a bit disappointed that there is no Higurashi Kai license. And they already lost Toradora. FUNi’s not doing half bad this year, but they’re dropping the ball on a lot of things people actually want. Here’s to hoping the rest of the con season plays out with some more good news.

Toradora! licensed! (Oh, and some other crap, too.)

Surely, there is a God.

In a stunning move, NIS America has stepped into the anime market and licensed Toradora! (among a few other titles), offering collector’s items as well.

The other titles are Pandora Hearts, Persona ~trinity soul~, and Our Home’s Fox Diety.

Now knowing NISA, we’re looking at some nice collectors items here. We could be looking at CDs for the OST or some OP/ED themes. We could be looking at figures. Art books. Hell, we could be looking at just about anything.

My only major concern is that with NISA taking their first step into the anime business, I have no idea if they are going to release a dub or not. I make a habit of not supporting dub-only releases. I will grudgingly buy Toradora!, even if it’s sub-only, but I certainly won’t be supporting any of their other releases if that’s the case. However, this is NISA we’re talking about. It’s a company that takes Japanese stuff, translates it, and redubs it for a living. I’m hoping I can count on them to pull through for a dub. Apparently, pre-orders were going to begin next month and sale was going to begin in April, but these have been pushed back. Hopefully, this is for something related to a dub, which would put my only major concern to rest.

I’ve speculated that this sudden licensing deal, namely with Toradora!, is related to the NIS game Zettai Hero Modification Project. Taiga Aisaka, as well as a few other characters, have cameos in this game. I suspect the licensing may be to alleviate any major issues with getting this game out to the general public. If this is the case, I hope that if they’re putting out dubbed releases that they can get To Aru Majutsu no Index as well, since Index makes a cameo in the same game.

I’d also love for them to pick up Toradora Portable! for PSP now that they have the license…

I love this song.

Blogging for the hell of it.

This is one of my favorite songs like… ever. It’s a Negima song called “Seinaru Sora no Shita De” (Under the Sacred Sky) and it’s sung by Negima characters Konoka Konoe (Ai Nonaka) and Setsuna Sakurazaki (Yuu Kobayashi). For your viewing pleasure, I embed this excellent AMV.

I totally support KonoSetsu, btw.

Oh, and I dunno when I’ll get around to blogging anything important. I’ve been playing Demon’s Souls and I’m almost done with my first run through, but I may or may not finish it tonight seeing as how the K-ON! OVA has just been released with subs. Probably no later than Thursday.

Dammit Touhou, stop being so awesome

January 8, 2010

So I keep getting distracted by Touhou. I don’t know why. I’m not even a super Touhou fan. I’m a casual. I’m like… a super-casual or an ultra-casual. See that picture? Yeah, I know probably less than a dozen of those characters. I’ve never beaten a Touhou game and I’ve only played a handful. I’ve never read any doujinshi (non-ecchi ones, I mean, the ones about the characters), nor have I read any of the manga that the creator, ZUN, writes. I really don’t know squat about it. However, that doesn’t stop me from getting way too engrossed with it every time I touch it.

For example, I keep trying to get things done and there are a handful of Touhou music remix videos that I can’t stop watching. There’s one in particular…

I LOVE that video. It’s awesome. Really unique and it has a catchy song. There’s another one I like to watch a lot, too, because of how silly it is.

Stuff like this will just catch me off guard while I’m trying to get something else done. In fact, yesterday, I was trying to make some headway in Higurashi. At around noon, I decided to get started on it. I got distracted when I saw my Touhou game folder. Started playing… for a few hours. Played Touhou 1, 5, and 9.5 for a long time. Didn’t get started on Higurashi until 4:00.

Here’s the kicker, though. I wanted to make this post at midnight last night before I went to sleep. Know what I did? I got distracted by Touhou again. I watched this a few times:

Then this morning, I was going to make the post. Know what I did? I reorganized all of my Touhou pictures for a few hours… and then watched some videos again. So it took me around 3 hours to make it to this point.

Oh, well. I’ll hopefully dedicate some good quality time to Touhou after I finish Higurashi and get it out of my system. So yeah, Rollout Riot Day 5 in less than an hour and Durarara 1 is out. I’ll hopefully be done with Higurashi this weekend (Saturday or Sunday) and I’ll write up some crap about it. More from me in an hourish.
