(Sharing this thing as usual.)

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

New stick mod

August 2, 2014

I redid my AH3-based stick in preparation for Love Max.

And here’s the original art:

I think I’m a lot happier with this one than I was with the original. It’s simpler and it’s themed. And it doesn’t have icky Yoriko.

Gal*Gun bragging time!

July 4, 2013

No one cares, but I wanted a place to make sure this would stick around.

So the long and short of it is that God rank in Gal*Gun is supposed to be hard to get. Pretty much every source says that it’s incredibly difficult to do in Story Mode and you should try doing it in Score Attack’s All Route course or in Underwater Mode in order to get your related titles and trophies. Well, I nailed it in Story Mode. Three times. Twice on Expert, then on Beginner. You’d think Beginner might be easier, but you actually get less points from bosses, so it’s harder.

First I did it in Expert. I got it shown here right before I got to the boss. (This is the very start of the final boss fight for that route.)

expert1boss

Here’s my score at the chapter end. (You don’t get any points for the final boss fight, so this is what I had going in.)

expert1stage5

I barely cleared it by 500 points going in. The requirement is 600000. You can see why it’s considered hard. It took me a lot of times through the game to be able to do this.

So here’s my score at the route clear after the final scoring session.

expert1end

With a full meter going in, I was only able to get 20000 points off of the final scoring session. Most bosses give up to 50000 points in Expert, so you get much less at the end here. You’ll need a minimum of 580000 points and a full meter going into the last boss to pull off God rank.

So here’s where I got in on the next try in Expert. You’ll see my score improved even more.

And after the final scoring session.

expert2end

Again, I only got about 20000 points.

So here’s where I got it in Beginner. In Beginner, you’re guaranteed no more than 40000 points per boss fight, so you’re automatically down 40000 points compared to Expert no matter what.

beginnerend

If it were Expert, my score would have been closer to 648000, higher than I ever scored in Expert. You’ll see I barely cleared it.

Here’s my score on the local scoreboard, showing that it was in Beginner difficulty.

The last four kana in the top right corner say “Beginner.” Biginaa.

And I have absolutely no idea how to get my scores up on the online scoreboard. I’m starting to wonder if it’s not locking out non-Japanese accounts somehow, but I honestly couldn’t say. Nothing I’ve scored gets up there. But here’s where my score would be if I could get it up.

onlinescoreboard

#59. Look at how high that cursor is on the right. There are a loooooooooooooooooooot of score I’m higher than ūüėČ Pretty proud of myself.

Anyway, done bragging. Still working on the platinum for this game, which is why I’m playing through so many rounds of Story Mode. (It’s easiest to tweak your stats for titles in Story Mode since you can answer questions in the beginning to get them set to the values you need immediately.)

2012 in review (because why not post it?)

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 9,000 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 15 years to get that many views.

New custom arcade stick

July 15, 2012

Got my Qanba stick in this week and I also got the last few pieces in (with the very last ones coming in yesterday), so I went ahead and customized it. Crappy cell phone pics:

And a better view of the dustwasher:

And a better picture of the art:

Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I’m just a little disappointed that I can’t quite get the black lines across the buttons to line up evenly through my clear Sanwas. If/when I switch the art out, I’m not going to make the mistake of putting anything that can easily be identified as misaligned across the buttons again.

I’m also really happy with the Qanba. I was using a MadCatz SE (Brawlstick) before. This Qanba is a lot better, and it plays on both PS3 and 360, which is a huge bonus, especially since I’ve got Phantom Breaker coming in whenever the hell they decide to release it. I also love the compartment in the side for storing the cable, as well as the carrying handle on the top. It’s definitely a top-notch stick.

Honestly, I expected my initial impressions post to come before this, but up until to day I haven’t seen a single bit of Ebiten. All that’s out today is a non-English sub release. There’s not even a raw out, which is weird since it’s a web episode. Should be easy to snag. Again, though, I don’t even know what the translations are looking like. If I don’t hear from it by next weekend then I’ll just write up my post without it on the assumption that it won’t be subbed for some time, if at all. If it’s not out by then, my next post will probably be another import post.

And one to grow on.

One more 1CC. The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. This stupid game gave me so much damn trouble trying to 1CC it. Red Magic is evil. EVIL. There were three times where I made it to Red Magic and lost. Even though I made it through this time, I still lost too many bombs by dying. I could have finished with more lives. No other spell card has ever made me so overconfident only to smack me in the face at the most inopportune time.

Replay’s up at Gensokyo.org, will be up on YouTube later. Links in the sidebar.

And another Touhou 1CC

October 28, 2010

Perfect Cherry Blossom. Did it with SakuyaB. I had been trying with SakuyaA and gotten close several times, but I kept making a bunch of stupid mistakes. I still made a ton this time, but I finished the run by catching a few of the ones I usually make. I had a decent finish as far as life count goes, I guess. I wasn’t pushing it as close as my MoF run for sure. It helps that Sakuya has so many damn bombs.

The replay will be in the sidebar links (Gensokyo.org and YouTube).

Managed another Touhou 1CC

October 28, 2010

Mountain of Faith this time. Did it with ReimuA on my first time beating the game.

I’ve also taken the liberty of uploading replays since the last time. I put the files at Gensokyo.org’s replay section and I also uploaded recordings to YouTube. MoF’s YouTube upload won’t be up until tomorrow. I have to check the compressed videos to make sure they’re okay.
