The tradition continues.

November 24, 2012

Today (well, yesterday, as I write this, November 23rd, Black Friday), I participated in my yearly tradition of watching all of Toradora on DVD. That means every episode, every Toradora SOS special, and every clean OP/ED, all in a single day. This year, I had the honor of adding the OVA that came out last December to the marathon as well. (Everything but the OVA was on the NISA DVD release.)

I know it’s not a big deal, but it’s… fulfilling? to have a tradition that you can stick to. Four years in a row and Toradora still isn’t old for me yet. I love it just as much as I did when I first saw it in 2009. This is a special activity for me now, and one that I hope continues into the far future.

New tradition accomplished.

November 2, 2011

For the second year in a row, I’ve watched the entirety of Toradora on DVD, including all 25 episodes, all 4 SOS specials, and every clean OP/ED, in a single day.

It’s also the third year in a row that I’ve seen the series in full. I decided after managing to do the whole series in a day last year that I’d try to make it a tradition by doing it once a year and sure enough I managed it again this year. The show still hasn’t gotten stale for me. I knew everything that was coming and the impact was just as great as it was the first time around. Still hands down my favorite anime of all time.

Anyone who hasn’t seen Toradora, I highly recommend it. Anyone who dropped it part of the way through, I encourage you to give it another try all the way to the end. Your efforts will be rewarded with the best chick fight and the best kiss scene I have ever seen in all of anime, as well as my absolute favorite romance/pairing in anime.

Now I’m Fate/stay night’d out.

June 19, 2010

More marathoning, but I didn’t keep track of how long it took me. Fate/stay night was far longer than I thought it would end up being. I don’t know exactly how long I spent reading it, but it had to be more days than I spent handling Tsukihime and all of its spin-offs together. It was probably 3 weeks given that I started reading it around the time Higurashi: Minagoroshi-hen came out. The in-game clock ended up being a little unreliable since it still counts when you’re sitting at the title screen or in the extras menus and I know I let the game sit there for an hour or two sometimes when I took breaks, but I’d estimate my final playtime at around 120-130 hours to finish all three routes, get all five endings, read Last Episode, get all bad endings, watch all three mini theaters, and read the unlockable bonus dojo scene. After that, I marthoned the entire anime in one day (having picked it up from Right Stuf on DVD). That’s unusual for me, since I usually don’t force myself to marathon a series longer than 12-14 episodes in a day.

Time for some quick impressions.

I’m Tsukihime’d out.

May 26 – Tsukihime anime

Three weeks on and off of Tsukihime content. I’d have loved to marathon it straight from beginning to end, but a lot of crap came up, so I didn’t really have the opportunity. Let’s get to my thoughts, shall we?

9 Days of Vampires (or “How I learned to love Chibi Vampire/Karin all over again”)

February 13, 2010

Okay, I’m officially vampire’d out for a while. I’ve been on a 9-day binge of anime, manga, and light novels focusing on vampires. It was part of an effort to catch up on unwatched fansubs and DVDs. The last nine days have been like this:

Friday – Dance in the Vampire Bund manga 1
Saturday – DitVB manga 2-4
Sunday – DitVB manga 5-6
Monday – DitVB anime 1-5, Chibi Vampire novel 1
Tuesday – CV novel 2-3, CV manga 4
Wednesday – CV novel 4
Thursday – CV novel 5, CV manga 5-8
Friday – CV manga 9-14, Karin Airmail scanlations, Karin anime 1-10
Saturday – Karin anime 11-24, DitVB anime 6

Busy, busy, busy. So yeah, I finally caught up on Dance in the Vampire Bund and I’m now waiting for weekly fansub releases and the official manga releases. I also managed to catch up on Chibi Vampire/Karin, a series that I liked, but put on the back-burner for so long I wasn’t sure I’d ever get back to it again. I’ve already posted my opinions on the Dance in the Vampire Bund anime so far (and my opinions of the manga are much higher), so I’d like to take an opportunity to talk about Chibi Vampire/Karin this time.
